The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) extends its sincere congratulations to the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) on the successful conclusion of its 26th Annual General Meeting and the election of its new leadership.
MATATO warmly congratulates Mr. Hussain Afeef, widely known across the tourism industry as Champa Afeef, on his election as the Chairperson of MATI. As one of the most respected pioneers of Maldivian tourism, Mr. Afeef’s longstanding contributions and leadership experience represent a continuation of the strong values that have shaped the Maldives into one of the world’s most renowned travel destinations.

MATATO also congratulates MATI’s newly elected Secretary General, recognizing the vital role the Secretariat plays in supporting industry coordination, stakeholder engagement, and strategic development of the tourism sector.
Established in 1982, MATI remains the Maldives’ longest-serving tourism association and has played a key role in advancing tourism development, strengthening private sector participation, and fostering opportunities for industry growth. Over the decades, MATI’s efforts have contributed significantly to building global confidence in the Maldives as a leading destination.
From the perspective of MATATO, which represents the collective voice of travel agents and tour operators, this leadership transition reflects a renewed opportunity for greater collaboration and unified industry direction. As the tourism industry continues to evolve globally, strong partnerships among associations and stakeholders remain essential to ensure resilience, competitiveness, and sustainability.
MATATO recognizes and appreciates MATI’s continuous commitment and hard work in empowering the tourism industry, supporting pioneers, and strengthening the sector’s role as the backbone of the Maldivian economy.
MATATO looks forward to continued cooperation with MATI and its leadership in strengthening the tourism value chain, enhancing industry standards, and ensuring that Maldivian tourism continues to grow in a manner that benefits the nation, its people, and future generations.
Once again, MATATO congratulates MATI’s Chairperson, Secretary General, and management team and wishes them every success in leading the tourism industry forward with unity and vision.
