On February 12, 2026, the Chinese Embassy in the Maldives hosted a vibrant Spring Festival Reception in Malé, bringing together senior Maldivian officials, diplomats, business leaders, members of the Chinese community, and distinguished guests to celebrate the Year of the Horse and reaffirm the enduring partnership between China and the Maldives.
The event, attended by around 200 guests including the Maldivian Education Minister and the State Minister of Foreign Affairs, was marked by a festive atmosphere rich in cultural exchange and mutual goodwill. Traditional decorations, music, and performances showcased the spirit of the Chinese New Year, creating a bridge between cultures and communities.
In his keynote address, Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives H.E. Mr. Kong Xianhua extended warm New Year greetings to all who have supported China–Maldives relations, especially the Chinese nationals and enterprises contributing to the country’s development. Ambassador Kong highlighted China’s ongoing commitment to shared progress, emphasising that China’s development offers positive opportunities for the Maldives and the wider world.
Reflecting on the successes of the past year, the Ambassador praised the strong momentum in bilateral cooperation, noting significant strides in major infrastructure projects such as the China-Maldives Friendship Hospital, the Malé-Vilimale’ Road Redevelopment Project, and the construction of offices for 50 island councils.
